A Startup Built Before Graduation
At 21, Justin Fulcher launched RingMD in 2013 as a way to put patients across Asia in touch with physicians most of them could never otherwise see. The premise was unglamorous. Basic healthcare access lagged behind mobile phone adoption in many of the markets RingMD entered, creating a gap the company tried to close with remote consultations rather than new hospitals or clinics.
Four years later, that work earned Fulcher a spot on Forbes Asia’s 30 Under 30 list in the Healthcare and Science category, a recognition given to founders whose companies had already shown measurable traction rather than promising ideas alone. By 2017, RingMD was operating in multiple countries, a scale few telemedicine startups in the region had reached at that point.
The honor came with attention, but Fulcher’s public comments from that period focus less on accolades and more on the underlying problem. Speaking with Charleston Digital Corridor in 2020, he said healthcare affects everybody, and that without fundamental access, entire parts of the world are held back. That framing, practical rather than promotional, has stayed consistent through later chapters of his career.
Justin Fulcher eventually stepped away from RingMD‘s daily management, though he still holds a board seat and a minority ownership stake in the company. His career since has moved toward government advisory work, a shift that might seem unrelated at first glance but actually extends the same underlying interest: building systems that function despite constraints most people would rather avoid.
