In his role as the Secretariat of His Highness the Aga Khan, Sachedina is responsible for creating and coordinating activities to help promote and encourage understanding, sensitivity, and inter-faith communication between the Ismaili Community and those of other faiths.

The programs undertaken at the Institute of Ismaili studies promote perspectives that reach beyond the traditional theological heritage of Islam, instead using opportunities to explore the relationship between religious ideas within the broader context of the world in which we live.

There is also a research aspect to the Institute’s efforts as the organization seeks to encourage interdisciplinary research and study of various Islamic studies that are often ignored.

In addition to his roles as Department Head and Secretariat of His Highness Aga Khan, Shafik Sachedina has also shown commitment to the Ismaili Institute in other ways including serving as a Member of the Aga Khan Development Network Committee, Chairman of FOCUS Humanitarian Assistance International Coordinating Committee, and Member of Ismaili Leader’s International Forum.

Clearly through his works as a healthcare provider, dentist, and trusted link between Islam and other faiths, Sachedina has proven his commitment to humanity. His commitment to creating, producing, and developing stronger cultural links, is something to truly behold.
