Andy Wirth: The CEO of Sky Valley

Andy Wirth is the Chief Executive Officer of Squaw Valley Ski Holdings, which is the parent company of Squaw Valley. He also serves as the Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority Board of Trustees chairman and the CEO of Alpine Meadows Resorts. Wirth has worked tirelessly to transform the ski area to one of the leading tourist destinations globally. He has also contributed immensely towards community service and environmental organizations around Lake Tahoe regions with the primary aim of improving the area and the community as a whole.

Skydiving Accident

Being a passionate participant in skydiving, Andy Wirth suffered a near fatal accident in October 2013 that almost cut off his arm. He says that his new friends at Navy seal helped him go through the recovery process. After the accident, he co-founded an Ironman squad they call “Wounded Warrior Support, “with the aim of honoring the great men of the Navy SEALs. This team raises money to support the Navy SEAL Foundation. The philanthropic organization supports the team members of the special operations squad and their families when they return home.

Andy Wirth Elected RASC President

On January 12, 2016, the Reno-Tahoe Regional Air Service Corporation (RASC) pronounced that Andy Wirth was named the Chairman and President of RASC through a competitive election process. RASC’s key role is to promote air service into Reno-Tahoe International Airport and also identify new prospects for additional flights. The board is composed of all local hotel-casino establishments and tourist destinations including South Lake Tahoe, North Lake Tahoe and Reno.

Interviewed after the appointment, Wirth reiterated that he was honored to serve in that role and believes that landscape and future of the region including the greater Reno-Sparks and Lake Tahoe areas are full of opportunities. He added that air service to the area would continue to be central to the growth and development of the regional economy.

Wirth has an outstanding track record in the development of airports and general air service for the major resorts and communities in Colorado and Quebec. His recent role in establishing air services to Reno-Tahoe International Airport that saw the introduction of JetBlue airline that operates from JFK Airport, and the recently announced Alaska Airlines service flying from John Wayne Airport, cannot be wished away.
